Corporate social responsibility and Social Media

Corporate social responsibility, often abbreviated “CSR,” is a corporation’s initiatives to assess and take responsibility for the company’s effects on environmental and social wellbeing. The term generally applies to efforts that go beyond what may be required by regulators or environmental protection groups.
How good is yours?
I often ask businesses about their CSR, not many know about it.
When I started out my business I made sure this was in my business plan and have continued doing so.
I agree you can’t help everyone but we as business owners need to do our bit.
I was working with a business and we stopped off somewhere to get a coffee and it was my turn to pay.
As I’m crossing the road I see a homeless man sleeping and it wasn’t a nice day. I decided without asking him (thought I’d let him sleep a bit longer) to get him a cup of tea and some sausage rolls, and left it next to him but he woke up.
I just said take care, stay safe.
Gets back in van and we were chatting about CSR and the guy I was with turned round and said “I didn’t like the fact he didn’t say thank you to you”.
My reply was “you haven’t a clue what that guy has gone through, or how bad the streets are. I didn’t do this for a thank you I did it because it was the right thing to do”
He didn’t need to thank me his face said it all to me and I was proud of myself for doing the right thing.
I just think if I was ever in that position I hope some would help me.
Have you ever seen posts regarding childhood cancer?
Breaks my heart, no child should ever have to go through this, no parent should ever have to see their child or children go through this.
I have seen many posts regarding their journey, it’s awful dam right awful.
And yes I do what I can to help, whether that’s rounding up some businesses to help or making a donation.
Parkinsons is a great charity that I have supported.
My love/hate for Social Media
Social media is great and you can really market your businesses by being on it.
“You have to be in it to win it”
The only thing I don’t like is the bullying side whether that’s adults or children it’s just not acceptable at any age.
I hate seeing these videos of kids bullying someone, it’s not big and its certainly not clever.
Do you realise when your older going for a job interview employers do searches on social media or the internet using your name or phone number? It will come up no matter how long ago it was. Try it and see for yourself. How does social media tie in with corporate social responsibility? Because as mentioned in my past post, people buy from people and if on social media you are seen to be nasty and a bully no one will want to work with you. However, if you are seen to be giving back and supportive people will trust you with their custom. Remember this before you act on social media.
You really do need to be careful.
I love this quote
“If you can’t be kind be quiet”
